Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An uncommon "Crafted in Japan" model, this bass features a factory-installed Fender American Standard split coil P Bass pickup, along with a few select vintage touches including a block logo on the headstock, proper thumb rest placement, and black pickguard. One welcome deviation from vintage spec is a thick slab rosewood fretboard (as opposed to a thinner veneer board seen on actual vintage examples). With an alder body as its sonic foundation, this bass delivers the goods with strong thump and excellent articulation. Weighing 9lbs 7oz, this bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire exhibits only very light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-7. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width. The headstock features a block logo, and the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with full-size baseplates and a light dusting of patina. The “Crafted in Japan” text and P-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness and governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. The hardware is quite clean, including the flat-topped knurled knobs and bridge base with steel saddles, and the three-ply black pickguard rounds out the plastics.

The gloss Olympic White finish (catalog: Vintage White) has numerous "tan lines" on the back where stickers were previously affixed and removed. Beyond those marks, cosmetic wear is limited to just a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back and perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.
