Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Mustang '66 vintage reissue in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced by Fender Japan exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this Mustang model MG66-66 is uncommon outside its country of origin with an Olympic White gloss finish. There's plenty to love about this Mustang, from the lightweight and resonant slab body to the pair of stock single coil pickups that deliver plenty of snap and twang. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 8oz, and the crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is soloed. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 10-46 strings and dialed in with spot-on intonation and slinky action. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4” radius, retaining flawless slender fretwire. The guitar plays easily up the 24" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock features Kluson-style white button tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The "Crafted in Japan" text and Q-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt F neck plate. All of the electronics work exactly as they should, with on/off/on switches for each single coil and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The hardware has bright chrome plating on the bridge and vibrato unit, with some surface patina on the control plate. The vibrato actuates smoothly, actuating easily and working in concert with the bridge's barrel saddles. Plastics include the original pair of knobs and a dark brown glossy tortoise pickguard which exhibits some pick scuffing on the treble side. The Olympic White gloss finish has a couple larger finish chips on the treble-side lower bout body edge, some additional small dings on the body as a whole (largely on the back), and finish checking extending from the corners of the neck pocket. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.A gigbag is included.
