Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Competition Mustang '73 vintage reissue guitar in excellent, 100% original condition with an Ocean Turquoise Metallic custom color finish and matching headstock. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and officially model MG73/CO, this Mustang is rarely seen outside its country of origin. Often considered to rival Fender's US production in terms of overall quality, this Mustang is a testament to the workmanship and eye for detail evident in the Made in Japan Fender models. The stock single coil pickups have a clear, cutting tone, and the on/off/on pickup selector toggles can also engage the distinctive Mustang out-of-phase sound. The guitar weighs 7lbs 8oz, and the crisp, jangling voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 11-49 strings and features low action and spot-on intonation. The neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .970" at the 12th. The thick rosewood fretboard boasts 22 slender frets with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and playing cleanly in every register. At 24", the scale length is ideal for smaller hands and players looking to execute chord extensions that might be a bit more of a stretch at Fender's full scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. Matching the body with its Ocean Turquoise finish, the headstock features Kluson-style tuners with white buttons, and these tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The "Crafted in Japan" text and P-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt F neck plate. All of the electronics work function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the two pickups. The vibrato actuates easily with a smooth, springy response, and the chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean. The plastics are equally well-kept including the black pickup covers and white pearloid pickguard which has great dimension. Cosmetic wear on the gloss finish is limited to a few dings clustered on the lower bout body edge, with one tiny finish chip and some checking in the gloss at the edge of the neck pocket, and sparingly little additional wear on the instrument as a whole. The neck profile has a smooth ambered gloss finish.A padded gigbag is included, and while the bag itself and two of the outer pockets have viable zippers, the largest exterior pocket is missing its zipper.
