Up for sale, a 2002 Fender American Vintage '62 Jaguar boasting a Black gloss nitro lacquer finish and upgraded genuine nitrate tortoise pickguard, professionally setup to play its best and complete with the original G&G Deluxe hardshell case. A discontinued model, this Jaguar has a traditional tonewood complement with an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, delivering a clear, authoritative natural acoustic tone.Plugged in, this Jag delivers the goods, retaining the original pair of black bobbin single coil pickups with lightly beveled flat-pole alnico magnets. The American Vintage '62 pickups are a bit rounder and fuller in the midrange than later Fender Jag pickup winds, retaining plenty of twang and snap in the top end, with the slightly aggressive chime and sinewy snarl that sets this model apart. Offering plenty of sparkling cut and percussive snap, this Jaguar is quite versatile. Engage the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn for darker, meatier tones, or flip the "strangle" switch in the Lead Circuit for thinner tic-tac sounds. Top it off with more chrome than a Cadillac and a flip-up string mute and you have the model that was Fender's flagship guitar when it was introduced in '62, with every bell and whistle Leo Fender and his team could think to include. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Offset Fender instruments, strung with 11-48 roundwound strings and dialed in for low action and accurate intonation.The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with an effortless feel, round shoulders in every register, and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .905" at the 12th. The slab Indian rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this particular tonewood, featuring a 7 1/4" vintage-spec radius and original slender fretwire with well-rounded crowns. These stock slender frets retain their full factory height, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The 24" scale length makes bending and chord extensions a breeze, and the nut measures 1.650" in width. On the headstock, the Jaguar waterslide decal is intact, and the Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the neck heel and in the pocket, all 2002 date stamps are present along with all requisite additional factory markings.All of the electronics work as they should, the copious chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming, and the string mute engages easily. The vibrato works extremely well for small surfy shimmies or deeper dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and setup so that there's proper break angle between the bridge and tailpiece for optimal stability and minimal string slippage. A replacement four-bolt neck plate rounds out the hardware.The nitro lacquer Black gloss finish is accented by an upgraded genuine nitrate tortoise pickguard, and cosmetic wear includes broad “shattered glass” lacquer checking on the lower bout, pick scuffing across the strum path, and a spot of buckle rash central to the upper bout on the back. There are some additional faint scuffs and minor marks on the body as a whole, and the neck retains its smooth nitro gloss with just a few tiny marks on the profile length.The original Fender brown tolex G&G hardshell case is included.
