Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Stratocaster ‘72 vintage reissue model ST72-90US in showroom-clean, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with original hangtags. A like-new non-catalog model, this extremely rare “Crafted in Japan” instrument was part of the Order Made program, offering custom features and finishes. And while Fender Japan did offer a Pink Paisley-finished Stratocaster in their standard line in this era, what makes this particular model distinct is the large '72-style headstock and USA-made Fender pickups.Featuring a basswood body and one piece maple neck, this guitar has a balanced acoustic profile with a resonant, chiming character faithfully captured by the factory-installed Fender American Vintage 57/62 single coils. One of Fender's most enduringly popular vintage-spec pickup sets, the 57/62s have black fiber bobbins, cloth-covered leads, and staggered alnico magnets. The pickups are bright and sparkling with an aggressive bite at the bridge, bell-like roundness at the neck, and plenty of hollow squawk via the in-between positions on the five-way switch. Weighing 7lbs 11oz, this Strat has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders in every register and a bit more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840” at the 2st fret and .980” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius with pristine slender fretwire that plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The bone nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"). The large headstock has a block logo and bullet truss rod, with Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” and P-prefix serial number are present above the three-bolt F neck plate, and the model designation and Order Made number are present in the neck pocket. On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with the Fender American Vintage 57/62 pickups governed by a five-way selector switch and Volume/Tone/Tone control array. The vibrato with full-size diecast block retains its gleaming chrome plating, engaging easily for expressive warbles and dives. Original plastics include the trio of cream knobs, bright white pickup covers, and the Paisley pickguard, which retains the factory protective film and “Original Pickup Vintage Made in USA” sticker. A stunningly well-kept example, the clear gloss finish over the Pink Paisley foil is immaculate, and the gloss finish on the neck profile is equally clean.A gigbag is included, along with the original hangtags and case candy.
