Up for sale, a 2001 Ibanez J Custom model HRG2001 electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The HRG2001 was made exclusively for the Japanese retailer Ikebe Gakki in 2001, considered a "spot model" since it was a non-catalog offering, and only *six* instruments were ever produced.
J Custom guitars are crafted by Ibanez's master luthiers at the famed FujiGen factory in Japan, with very small production numbers, select premium tonewoods, and incredible attention to detail. This insanely rare and upscale example sports a two-piece AAAA tiger flame maple body, not a veneer or top like many models, but two solid, carved pieces of thick, deeply figured flame maple. The three-piece maple neck is capped with a slab maple fretboard framed by flame maple binding, featuring abalone dot inlay and gold hardware throughout. The guitar is loaded with the original DiMarzio USA pickup pair with double cream bobbins.
The all maple construction ensures an authoritative note attack and exquisite clarity, qualities which are translated faithfully through the Dimarzio pickup complement, with a Tone Zone humbucker in the bridge position and an Air Norton humbucker at the neck. The Tone Zone is hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup, but with a notably wide dynamic range. Hard picking produces loads of power, while softer picking is much cleaner and quieter, offering tremendous bass and rich low-mid response. The powerful yet open-sounding Air Norton at the neck features a patented magnetic structure that reduces string-pull, so sustain is improved, while pick attack and dynamics are tremendously controllable and expressive. The pickup is deep and warm, but not muddy, and produces excellent harmonic content. The push/pull Master Volume is a global coil tap for single coil snap and sparkle. This Ibanez J Custom weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.
The three-piece maple neck has a slender Wizard neck profile, relatively flat central to the carve, with pronounced shoulder and rolled fretboard edges. The profile measures .740” deep at the 1st fret and .775” at the 12th. The slab maple fretboard has a 24 fret range with flame maple binding, offset abalone dot position markers, and stock jumbo fretwire. The frets have their full factory height and plenty of meat, with light uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-5 and fainter wear exclusively beneath the plain strings extending further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with a 15” fretboard radius and an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The guitar boasts a full 25 1/2" scale length and 1 11/16" nut width. The headstock has a thick flame maple veneer with abalone Ibanez logo and stock set of gold Gotoh tuners, and the Top-Lok III locking nut ensures optimal tuning stability even with heavy tremolo use.
The body has a simple and sleek control layout, with a three-way toggle pickup selector switch, push/pull Master Volume coil tap, and Tone knob. The stock Lo-Pro Edge tremolo has improved sustain over the older Edge system, and was designed by Ibanez to provide the fast response and snap needed to pull off sharp bends and flutters. The gold hardware shows light surface patina, aside from the gleaming vibrato arm. The two pieces of solid AAAA tiger flame maple comprising the body are jaw-dropping cuts, with incredible depth and dimension. Cosmetic wear on the Natural finish includes targeted pick wear on the treble side of the path, with light scattered scuffs and finish scratches on the body, but no serious or structural wear of any kind. The neck profile sports a satin finish with a light scratch behind fret 14 and a few additional minor marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original Ibanez hardshell case is included.
