Up for sale, a 2001 Gibson J-185 EC acoustic electric in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The successor to the EC-30 Blues King Electro, the J-185 EC is a very versatile and powerful-sounding Gibson acoustic. The guitar has similar looks to a scaled down J-200, boasting a more manageable 16" lower bout width, 9" waist, and full 4 5/8" body depth. Outfitted with the original Fishman Prefix Plus active preamp and boasting a treble side cutaway for easier access to the highest frets, this guitar combines classic Gibson aesthetics with modern, player-friendly touches for optimal versatility and playability.

With an X-braced solid Sitka spruce top, solid flame maple back and sides, and a slab ebony fingerboard, the tone is rich and defined, with ample projection, strong percussive cut and great string-to-string balance. The depth of the body adds warmth and bloom, and the Fishman Prefix Plus faithfully captures the instrument's natural sound, with a variety of tonal sculpting options. This J-185 EC weighs 5lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The three-piece flame maple neck has a particularly slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough shoulder, measuring .780” deep at the 1st fret and .870” at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard features mother of pearl split parallelogram inlay, and the slender fretwire only exhibits a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.72” in width. On the headstock, the gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

The Fishman Prefix Plus preamp is paired with an undersaddle pickup and 1/4” endpin jack. The preamp features a Volume knob and four EQ sliders, in addition to a Notch Filter, Phase switch, and Frequency slider, all designed for easy tonal sculpting and feedback rejection. The ebony bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the compensated saddle has ample height for future adjustment. The soundhole is framed by an abalone rosette, and the orange oval Gibson label is present.

The gloss Blonde nitro lacquer finish highlights the curly flame figuring on the bookmatched maple back and sides. This guitar is well-kept and crack-free, with cosmetic wear limited to a scant few minor dings on the bass side of the top and a handful of faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The highly figured tiger maple neck has a nigh flawless gloss finish.

The original Gibson-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
