Up for sale, a 2001 Fender American Vintage '62 Telecaster Custom with a rare custom color Ice Blue Metallic nitro lacquer finish and a black tolex hardshell case. The Ice Blue Metallic gloss has aged to a unique shade almost approximating Sage Green, framed by cream top and back binding. A discontinued model, this Tele features an alder body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fretboard. The guitar delivers a big, ringing acoustic voice which translates well through the original pair of black bobbin single coil pickups. While the bridge pickup has a distinctive chewy twang and sparkle, the neck pickup has a silky smooth quality and bell-like chime. With both pickups engaged, the guitar has a clear percussive snap, equal parts cut and warmth and ideal for rhythm work. The guitar balances well on a strap and weighs 7lbs 9oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this Tele is dialed in for optimal intonation and low action.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and 925" at the 12th. On the slab rosewood fretboard, the slender frets retain their full factory height, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. The guitar plays well in all registers, and the neck is straight with ideal relief. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines are intact, along with the "Custom Telecaster" waterslide decal. The neck heel is pencil dated 3-27-01, and the neck pocket has all the requisite factory stamps, wth dates spanning January-April of '01. The truss rod nut is flush with the heel, essentially necessitating no adjustment over the past two decades.
All of the electronics function as intended, with original black bobbin Fender single coils and CTS pots. The chrome plating on the hardware has ample shine, and the bridge has been fitted with a set of compensated brass saddles for ideal treble detail and twang. The Ice Blue finish is accented by a pale mint green pickguard, and aging of the clear coat makes the guitar appear various shades of blue and green depending on the lighting. Cosmetic wear includes some dings on top, mostly on the lower bout, with light finish scratches and minor marks on the back and body perimeter. The neck profile retains its lightly ambered smooth nitro gloss.
A Fender-branded black tolex hardshell case with raised Fender logo on the exterior is included.
