Up for sale, a Yamaha SGV-800 Flying Samurai vintage reissue electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and paperwork. Produced from 2000-2004, the SVG-800 is a modern iteration of the original esteemed Flying Samurai, a unique amalgamation of surf-inspired design, featuring elements influenced by both Mosrite and Fender. The stock pair of oversized screw-pole alnico magnet single coil pickups offer great snap, sparkle, and cut with plenty of lower midrange fullness. This SGV-800 weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation, and comfortable action.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 10" radius with dot inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets have good height with well-rounded crowns, showing light uniform wear ona the crowns of frets 1-2, extending exclusively beneath the plain strings to fret 8, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with a responsive, ideally adjusted truss rod. The scale length measures 24 3/4", and the nut is 1 5/8“ in width. On the slim headstock, the stock Sperzel locking tuners work as they should, holding pitch against liberal vibrato use.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control topped with a trio of replacement knurled chrome knobs. The vibrato unit has a unique ball bearing design, essentially combining a Mosrite pivot and string anchoring with the spring alignment of a Stratocaster. This vibrato is very effective and works in concert with the bridge's roller saddles, offering a particularly smooth and responsive vibrato action for expressive warbles and dives. The gloss Pearl Snow White finish has lightly yellowed, evidenced by a subtle sticker tan line on the back bass side lower bout. Cosmetic wear is limited to a small mark on the back bass side lower bout, and a small finish chip at the bass side edge of the neck pocket. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.
The original gigbag and paperwork is included.
