Up for sale, a 2000's Mosrite Ventures Model Super Custom 65 vintage reissue in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted at the KuroKumo factory in Japan, this rare reissue model was made for a limited period, with the majority of examples only available to the domestic Japanese market. KuroKumo-made Mosrites are sought after for their masterful build quality and attention to detail, and this Super Custom 65 replicates all the essential features of the '60s Ventures Model instruments, with a sandcast Vibramute tailpiece, Mosrite-embossed pickup covers and M knobs, and prominent German Carve on the basswood body.
The stock pair of stock single coil pickups are snappy and sparkling, not as overwound as some, yet still providing a bold, distinct sound in every pickup position. Chewy and snappy at the bridge and broader at the neck, these pickups offer an authoritative treble zing that's quintessential Mosrite. Weighing 8lbs 11oz, this Mosrite has been setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has Mosrite's signature slender and fast-feeling C shaped profile with moderate shoulder, measuring .830 just beyond the prominent volute and .865” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features fret edge binding, and the original slender vintage-style frets have their full factory height, showing only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-2. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale length, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard measures 1 9/16" in width at the zero fret, just forward of the aluminum nut. The headstock features Kluson-style single line tuners with microscopic "Mosrite" text on the gear housings. These tuners have a faithful '60s look and hold pitch well with liberal vibrato use.
The body features the original single coil pickups with Mosrite-embossed covers, governed by Master Volume and Tone knobs. The “Vibramute” vibrato is extremely smooth and elegant, touch-sensitive in its responsiveness and made to exacting vintage spec with a sandcast base and chrome plated string anchor and arm. Metal skirted M knobs round out the hardware, and the multi-ply white pickguard exhibits light pick scuffing and one stabilized split in the pickguard plastic at one of the mounting holes.
The three-tone Sunburst gloss finish is notably well-kept, and cosmetic wear is limited to some scattered small dings on the body as a whole and a few light finish scratches. The smooth gloss on the profile exhibits just a couple shallow marks on the treble side of the carve behind frets 11-13 that have no impact on playability.
The original Mosrite-branded black tolex hardshell case with form-fit red plush interior is included.
