Up for sale, a 2000's Mosrite Super Custom 65 Ventures Model electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted at the KuroKumo factory in Japan, just down the road from the famed FujiGen factory, this rare reissue model was made for a limited period, with the majority of examples only available to the domestic Japanese market. KuroKumo-made Mosrites are sought after for their masterful build quality and attention to detail, and this Super Custom 65 replicates all the essential features of the early Ventures Model instruments, with smooth knobs, sandcast Vibramute tailpiece, and prominent German Carve on the basswood body. The stock pair of stock single coil pickups are snappy and sparkling, not as overwound as some, yet still providing a bold, distinct sound in every pickup position. Chewy and snappy at the bridge and broader at the neck, these pickups offer an authoritative treble zing that's quintessential Mosrite. Weighing 8lbs 12oz, this Mosrite has been setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has Mosrite's particularly slender and effortless C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .775” deep at the 1st fret and .860” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features fret edge binding and original slender frets which have their full factory height, showing notable grooves beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, with wear growing gradually lighter until the octave. The guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. A faithful reissue in every respect, this Mosrite boasts a 24 3/4" scale length and 1 9/16" wide zero fret just forward of the aluminum nut. The headstock features the Ventures Model text and vertical Mosrite logo, and there are a few tiny touched-up finish chips on the M-shaped top headstock edge. The original Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well with liberal vibrato use.
The body features original single coil pickups, and while these pickups are less aggressive in terms of output than vintage Mosrite pickups, they have a nice snappy single coil chime. The '65 look is rounded out with a three-ply pale mint green pickguard (with some requisite pick scuffing across the strum path), screw-on switch tip, and chrome-plated metal Mosrite knobs machined with smooth tops (the design that predated the more common "M" knobs). The “Vibramute” vibrato is extremely smooth and elegant, touch-sensitive in its responsiveness and made to exacting vintage spec with a sandcast base and chrome-plated string anchor and arm.
The Sunburst gloss finish exhibits some small dings and nicks on the body perimeter, particularly on the treble-side lower bout edge, with light buckle rash at the treble-side waist and a few additional minor marks and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile is flawless.
The original near mint black tolex hardshell case is included with silkscreen "Mosrite of California" text on the lid.
