Up for sale, a 2000s Excel Fuzzy Superb model D10 double neck pedal steel in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original flight case. A niche company first founded in 1967, Fuzzy steels are custom built and handcrafted by master builder (and master steel guitar player) Mitsuo Fujii in Tachikawa City, Tokyo, Japan. This modern Fuzzy offering features decades’ worth of Mitsuo’s innovations and design refinement, resulting in a premium steel with a great feel and sound.
Crafted from solid curly maple, this particular D10 has been upgraded with a pair of George L’s PF-II single coil pickups. Hand-wound in Madison, TN, these George L’s are an ideal blend of single coil sparkle and midrange warmth, resulting in a smooth, balanced tone that remains articulate while never thinning out. George L. Lewis’ pickups are arguably responsible for the quintessential Nashville-style steel sound, and these PF-II’s certainly follow in that tradition.
The scale length measures 24”, and the playing surfaces have star position markers. The roller nut and bridge ensure a smooth and reliable response from the 8 pedals and 7 knee levers, and the Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. String spacing at the nut measures 62mm, and string spacing at the bridge is 75mm. There is a three-way selector toggle to switch between the two necks, and an inverted Master Tone knob.
The polished cast aluminum has plenty of shine, and the gloss Sunburst finish highlights the subtle curly figuring on the maple body. The Excel badge on the top edge is very clean, and there are just a scant few faint marks on the body as a whole.
The original Excel/Fuzzy-branded flight case is included.
