Up for sale, a 2000s EKO Rok IV Rokes bass in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The original Rokes basses (released at the Rok IV in the USA due to a competing trademark by Gretsch) were developed in 1965 as part of the collaboration between EKO and Italian/British beat/pop rockers The Rokes, who were exclusively seen using these eye-catching instruments prior to their dissolution in 1970.

The originals were produced in the Vox/EKO factory; this modern reissue captures the “rocket ship” design, short scale length and warm, rich thump of the original, with a maple neck and a bound rosewood fretboard. The stock solitary mini humbucker in the neck position has a broad, wooly low end, with a particularly pronounced midrange that has great harmonics, ensuring a sound that's both articulate and punchy. This Rok IV weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.

The three-piece maple/walnut/maple neck has a moderately slender U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 16” radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is pristine, playing cleanly up the 30 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The pointed headstock has an EKO inlay and silkscreened “Rokes” text, and the tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock retains the inked serial number.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickup wired to the stock harness and governed by a pair of Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated hardware is all notably clean, including the bridge base, pickup cover, aftermarket “ashtray” bridge cover, and flat-top Mosrite-esque knobs.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Wine Red finish is limited to an area of light buckle worming central to the back and just a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case with form-fit black plush interior is included.
