Up for sale, a 2000 Yamaha SGV-800 Flying Samurai in excellent, 100% original condition and perfect working order. Produced from 2000-2004, the SGV-800 is a modern iteration of the original esteemed Flying Samurai, a unique amalgamation of surf-inspired design featuring elements inspired by both Mosrite and Fender. The stock pair of oversized screw-pole alnico V magnet single coil pickups offer lots of brightness and punchy snap without sacrificing the lower midrange richness. This SGV-800 weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation and low action.

The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 10” radius, pearloid dot inlay, and original medium jumbo frets which retain their full factory height, showing only light, uniform wear beneath the strings from frets 1-7, with wear growing fainter beneath the plain strings and extending to the octave. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the straight neck with a responsive, ideally adjusted truss rod. The scale length measures 24 3/4", and the nut is 1 5/8“ in width. On the slim headstock, the stock Sperzel locking tuners work as they should, holding pitch against liberal vibrato use.

All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control governed by a trio of smooth-top Mosrite-esque knobs. The vibrato unit has a unique ball bearing design, essentially combining a Mosrite pivot and string anchoring with the spring alignment of a Stratocaster. This vibrato is very effective and works in concert with the bridge's roller saddles, offering a particularly smooth and responsive vibrato action for expressive warbles and dives. Plastics include the three-ply pearloid pickguard, which shows some minor curling of the top ply on either side of the bridge, and the pair of parchment vibrato and switch covers on the back which display some light scratching.

The gloss Sparkle Blue finish shimmers with tiny blue, orange, and green flecks. Cosmetic wear includes some faint finish scratches, light buckle rash on the back, and a couple minor dings on the body as a whole. The lightly ambered gloss finish on the neck is pristine,

The original Yamaha-branded gigbag is included.
