2000 Rickenbacker 4001V63 Vintage Reissue Bass Mapleglo Near Mint w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 2000 Rickenbacker 4001V63 vintage reissue bass in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a brand new Rickenbacker hardshell case. A discontinued model which has become increasingly scarce and sought after in recent years, the 4001V63 faithfully captures the look and feel of Rickenbacker's '60s 4001 model, featuring a Toaster Top neck pickup, Horseshoe bridge pickup, dot fretboard inlay, and elegant body contours without binding.

The 4001V63 offers a truly distinct sound that's notably deeper and thicker than other 4001 (and 4003) models, and while the 4001V63 still has Rickenbacker's present midrange growl and note attack, the sound can also be thumpier. The bass is particularly resonant acoustically and able to sustain beautifully given the neck through body construction. Weighing 9lbs 4oz, this 4001V63 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar for optimal action and spot-on intonation with fresh roundwound 45-100 strings.

The maple neck has a substantial and round C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .920” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 12th. The particularly thick slab rosewood fretboard retains the original practically perfect slender frets which have their full height and well-rounded crowns, showing only very faint wear on the crowns of frets 1-5. The bass plays effortlessly up the 33 1/4" scale with a straight neck, ideal relief and two responsive truss rods. The nut is a well-cut replacement, measuring 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the bass has the classic contrasting walnut wings along with the original tuning machines which turn smoothly and function as intended. The Rickenbacker-branded lucite truss rod cover is intact, and the V63 reissue visually benefits from having the appreciably longer vintage-spec headstock shape than other 4001 models.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the Toaster Top and Horseshoe pickups complement each other well with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup coupled to a three-way pickup selector switch and single mono 1/4" output jack embossed with a 00-prefix serial (dating to 2000). The chrome hardware and plastic parts are incredibly clean, and the wiring harness is untouched, with pots that date to the 30th week of '99. Cosmetic wear on the Mapleglo gloss finish is limited to a few faint finish scratches on the upper bout on the back, and a small spot of equally faint buckle rash central to the upper bout. The neck profile gloss finish is flawless, and light birdseye figuring in the maple extends along the neck, most prominent central to the body.

A brand new molded Rickenbacker hardshell case is included.
