Up for sale, a 2000 Gibson Flying V '98 Limited Edition model in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A model available for a few short years at the turn of the century the V '98 (as advertised by Gibson during its first year of production), offers control layout and jack placement of a Flying V circa 1958, also boasting a distinctive Natural Burst gloss nitro lacquer finish.

Tonewoods include a mahogany body and neck capped by a slab rosewood fretboard, and this construction yields a smooth growl and fundamental warmth, channeled through the stock pair of 496R and 500T humbuckers. The 496R produces incredible sustain and cutting power with its ceramic magnet construction, offering searing trebles and increased definition, ensuring no muddiness in high gain scenarios. The 500T is one of Gibson’s most powerful pickups, containing a three ceramic magnet structure, which enables a no-holds-barred rock and roll crunch that never loses its rich combination of enhanced lows and crystal clear highs. This V '98 weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender '60s-style C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, measuring .805” deep at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The dark rosewood fretboard has dot inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets have plenty of meat, retaining their full factory height, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-12 and lighter wear extending to fret 15. This Flying V plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the original set of Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the back of the headstock retains the “Limited Edition” banner logo.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the 496R and 500T humbuckers wired to the stock harness and governed by a three-way selector switch and Volume/Volume/Tone controls. The chrome-plated bridge and stopbar have plenty of shine, and plastics comprise the one-ply white pickguard, jack surround, and the original trio of black reflector cap knobs.

The gloss Natural Burst nitro lacquer finish exhibits one nick on the top central to the lower bout, a handful of minor dings along the body perimeter, an area of light buckle rash on the back central to the waist, and a number of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is nigh-flawless.

The original brown Gibson USA form-fit hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
