Up for sale, a 2000 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue model PB70-70US in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. An uncommon model, this bass features a factory-installed Fender American Standard split coil P Bass pickup, along with a few select vintage touches including a block logo on the headstock, proper thumb rest placement, and black pickguard. One welcome deviation from vintage spec is a thick slab rosewood fretboard (as opposed to a thinner veneer board seen on actual vintage examples). With an alder body as its sonic foundation, this bass delivers the goods with strong thump and excellent articulation. This bass weighs 9lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.
Crafted in Japan, this discontinued model is rarely seen outside its country of origin. The quality construction of Fender Japan's instruments provide stiff competition for Fender's vintage-centric USA reissue instrument lines (arguably in large part why they aren't offered in the USA), and this '70 Precision model meets the high bar befitting Fender Japan's reputation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4“ radius and features flawless stock medium jumbo fretwire. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock, the tuners have the correct vintage footprint with large chrome-plated clover-shaped keys. The “Crafted in Japan” text and O-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness. Hardware includes clean chrome-plated knurled knobs and bridge, with just a hint of patina across the steel barrel saddles. The thumb rest and the three-ply black pickguard round out the plastics. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Olympic White finish (catalog: Vintage White) is limited to a handful of minor marks along the lower bout body edge and just a few tiny dings and faint finsh scratches on the back. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
