Up for sale, a 2000 Fender Precision Bass '51 vintage reissue in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare and discontinued model made only for the Japanese domestic market (officially model OPB51-95SD), this bass is a faithful reissue of the earliest Precision Bass feature set. At the heart of the bass is a USA-made Seymour Duncan black bobbin pickup, and the bass delivers a strong fundamental punch with a resonance and thump that cuts through with a different tonal color and more presence than later split coil P Bass pickups. The solid ash string-through body helps the bass deliver both enhanced sustain and a complex midrange character. The bass weighs 10lbs and balances well on a strap, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and 45-100 roundwound strings. The one-piece maple neck has a full C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius with slender vintage-style frets that show virtually no wear with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The neck is straight, and notes ring out clearly up the 34" scale. The nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"). On the headstock, the original long stem tuners turn smoothly with a light speckling of surface patina on the nickel plating, and the bass has the smaller early '50s headstock profile most associated with the Telecaster. The "Crafted in Japan" text and O-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work as intended, and the factory installed black bobbin Seymour Duncan pickup delivers the goods. The two-saddle bridge shows light patina on the saddles, while the chrome plating on the domed knurled knobs is clean and bright. The Butterscotch finish highlights the prominent grain of the solid ash body, accented by a single-ply black pickguard. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a few very minor marks on the back and lower bout body edge, and faint pick scuffing on the treble side of the pickguard.
