Up for sale, a 2000 Fender Competition Mustang Bass '69 vintage reissue model MB-SD/CO in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful and discontinued reissue of the classic short scale Fender model, with a factory-installed split-coil USA-made Seymour Duncan pickup. Finished in Ocean Turquoise Metallic and accented by a Competition racing stripe and white pearloid pickguard, this is easily one of the most eye-catching Mustang Basses ever offered by Fender. This iteration of the Mustang Bass was also made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that fills out the low end nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass. Slightly more aggressive and midrange forward than a P Bass too, this Mustang Bass is strung with roundwound 45-100 strings, delivering an articulate top end and a touch of growl. The instrument is featherweight at 7lbs 11oz. We've had this Mustang Bass dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck features a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with more shoulder and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .780" deep at the 1st fret and .970" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard adds a real richness and warmth to the tone, with lightly rolled fretboard edges for added comfort. The slender frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-2. The bass plays cleanly up the 30" scale length, while the fretboard radius retains vintage 7 1/4" spec, and the carved bone nut measures 1 1/2" in width. On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face. The "Crafted in Japan" text and O-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt F neck plate. The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome bridge and control plate shine like new and the white pearloid pickguard is a nice contrast to the saturated Ocean Turquoise gloss. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to just a few faint finish scratches and minor dings, relegated almost exclusively to the back of the instrument, while the ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
