Up for sale, a 2000 Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4 H in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. The flagship of the Music Man line, this iteration of the StingRay is largely the same as it was upon its introduction in the late '70s, featuring roadworthy construction, a massive hardened steel bridge, elegant oval pickguard, 3+1 tuning key configuration, and the ever popular Music Man humbucker. Governed by an active 3-band EQ, the alnico magnet humbucker offers punchy growl and thick, round thump. The tonewood combination of a solid ash body, figured birdseye maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard provides ample warmth and articulation, delivering an authoritative acoustic tone with a gutsy note attack. The bass weighs 8lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The birdseye maple neck has a slender C-shaped carve with moderate shoulder, lightly rolled edges, and a silky smooth gun oil finish on the profile, measures .825" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th. And with its six-bolt attachment, this neck delivers stability that easily surpasses most set necks. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 11" radius and medium jumbo fretwire has plenty of meat, showing just a hint of wear on the crowns of frets 1-5. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original Music Man-branded tuning machines which have bright chrome plating. The neck heel is pencil dated 2-29-00, and the neck pocket has a July, 2000 stamp.
All of the electronics work as intended, with a Master Volume knob in addition to the 3-band active EQ circuit. The active circuitry is untouched, with original CTS pots and a stickered date on the back of one of the pots from 7-17-00. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine, and the original oval pickguard has a couple added mounting holes for a finger rest. The Black gloss finish exhibits just a few small dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole, and the smooth satin finish on the neck profile is nigh-flawless.
The original hardshell case is included.
