Up for sale, a 2000 Epiphone USA John Lee Hooker Signature 1964 Sheraton in near-mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case. Known as the “King of the Boogie” and revered for his one-of-a-kind ‘talking blues’ songwriting style, Hooker’s career spanned well over 30 studio and live albums, including his Grammy-winning LP “The Healer,” which he released in 1989 at 72 years old. His prolific musical output cemented him as a Delta Blues legend well before his passing in 2001, not long after his signature ‘64 Epiphone debuted. Vintage-accurate touches include a pair of Gibson USA mini humbucker pickups, a nitro lacquer finish, gold-plated hardware and premium binding and inlay work consistent with the upscale Sheraton model.
Manufactured at the Terada factory in Japan alongside Epiphone’s Elitist models, this Epiphone USA model earns its USA-ness by being assembled by Gibson in the USA and outfitted with genuine Gibson mini humbuckers. Given the Sheraton’s semi-hollow maple construction, the tonal response is similar in range and versatility to an ES-335, yet with more snap and bell-like chime from the mini humbucker wind. The guitar delivers a bold, shimmering bridge pickup sound with great midrange bounce and cut. There’s a rich growl when digging in at the bridge, while the neck pickup has a woody bark, fat yet clear. This John Lee Hooker Sheraton benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
