Up for sale, a 2000 Epiphone by Gibson ES-335 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced at the Terada factory in Japan, this rare pre-Elitist Epiphone was made exclusively for the Japanese market. Not to be confused with “Dot” iterations, this guitar features the Epiphone Japan-exclusive open book headstock shape. Crafted with exceptional fit and finish work, this guitar easily holds its own against its USA-made contemporaries. With the crisp attack of maple and the sweet, airy qualities of the semihollow body, the tonal range and detail of this guitar is exceptional, and the original PAF-style pickups cover a broad spectrum. Cut, sparkle, growl, richness, and warmth are all on tap, and each position on the three-way toggle has a distinct, usable tone. The guitar weighs 9lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and solid intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender rounded C shaped profile carve with modest shoulder, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th. The neck has a long tenon joint with a thick slab rosewood fretboard and stock slender fretwire. The frets are in great shape with their full factory height, showing only light wear exclusively beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-4, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The guitar conforms to traditional Gibson spec with a 24 3/4" scale length and 1 11/16" wide nut. On the open book headstock, the original chrome tuners turn very smoothly and the "J" prefix stamped serial number denotes manufacture at the Terada factory.

All of the electronics work exactly as intended, with a three-way pickup selector toggle and individual Volume and Tone controls for each humbucker wired to full-size Noble pots. All of the original plastic parts are present and clean, and the nickel hardware shows light uniform patina. The guitar is exceptionally clean for an instrument pushing two decades, with cosmetic wear limited to light scuffing in the pick path and light scattered requisite scuffs in the clear coat of the Cherry gloss. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.

A gigbag is included.
