Up for sale, a 1999 Rickenbacker 4001V63 vintage reissue bass in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original silver hardshell case and factory paperwork. A discontinued model which has become increasingly scarce and sought after in recent years, the 4001V63 faithfully captures the look and feel of Rickenbacker's '60s 4001 model, featuring a Toaster Top neck pickup, Horseshoe bridge pickup, dot fretboard inlay, and elegant body contours without binding.

The 4001V63 offers a truly distinct sound that's notably deeper and thicker than other 4001 (and 4003) models, and while the 4001V63 still has Rickenbacker's present midrange growl and note attack, the sound can also be thumpier, a factor accentuated by a set of 45-105 medium tension flatwound strings. Particularly resonant acoustically and able to sustain beautifully given the neck through body construction, this 4001V63 weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar for optimal action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a substantial and round C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .915” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The particularly thick slab rosewood fretboard retains the original practically perfect slender frets which have their full height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-2. The bass plays effortlessly up the 33 1/4" scale with a straight neck, ideal relief and two responsive truss rods. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the bass has the classic contrasting walnut wings along with the original tuning machines which turn smoothly and function as intended. The Rickenbacker-branded lucite truss rod cover is intact, and the V63 reissue benefits from having the appreciably longer vintage-spec headstock shape than later 4001 models.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the Toaster Top and Horseshoe pickups compliment each other well with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup coupled to a three-way pickup selector switch and single mono 1/4" output jack. The chrome hardware and plastic parts are incredibly clean, and the wiring harness is untouched. Cosmetic wear on the Mapleglo gloss finish is limited to a couple microscopic finish scratches and tiny nicks central to the lower bout on the back, and a small scuff on the top headstock edge. The neck profile gloss finish is flawless.

The original silver tolex vintage-style hardshell case is included and equally as well-kept as the bass, featuring black leather ends, functional latches, and a blue plush interior. The original factory paperwork also accompanies the bass.
