Up for sale, a 1999 Gibson SG-Z bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and padded gigbag. A short-lived and extremely rare Gibson model only offered from 1998-2001, the SG-Z bass is a full scale instrument with a 34" range, in contrast to the short scale SG-bodied EB basses. Boasting two humbuckers each coupled to its own three-way mini toggle, the coils in each humbucker can be combined in series or parallel or in single coil mode for a particularly broad tonal range. From brighter pluck to rich, thick growl the SG-Z delivers the goods with the natural warmth of the solid mahogany body and neck paired with a wenge fingerboard. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a D-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The slab wenge fretboard features pearloid split diamond inlay and flawless original frets that retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The scale length is a full 34", and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock features the original gray pearloid truss rod cover, Z inlay, and Gibson logo, with lightweight black Grover tuners that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics function flawlessly, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup, a Master Tone knob, and dedicated three-way mini toggles governing the humbucker pair. All of the original plastics are intact including the gray pearloid pickguard and trio of reflector cap knobs, and the strings are anchored by the stock heavy duty top-loader Schaller bridge. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish includes some dings and small finish chips on the lower bout body edge, very faint pick scuffing across the strum path, and just a few additional minor marks and tiny chips on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss lacquer on the profile is extremely clean.
The original padded Gibson gigbag is included, along with the original factory paperwork, including the Yamano-branded manual (Gibson's Japanese distributor).
