Up for sale, a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, and a full complement of case candy and original hangtags. Ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano, the Gibson's USA made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.
Weighing 10lbs 6oz, this Les Paul is a particularly punchy and round-sounding instrument with great sustain, due in part to the un-chambered mahogany body, which also lends this Standard a certain smooth growl and warmth. The stock humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the 490R neck pickup featuring Alnico II magnets and a more vintage-spec, PAF-style sonic range, while the Alnico V magnet 498T bridge pickup is overwound for extra power and authority. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is setup with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and solid intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round, inviting shoulders and a hair more heft as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the stock frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-8. The guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width, and the scale length measures 24 3/4". The headstock face is flawless, retaining the original "Standard" truss rod cover, and the original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, a fairly uncommon feature in-line with the instrument's Yamano provenance.
The guitar does exhibit an extremely well repaired split at the headstock joint, smooth to the touch and perfectly reliable at full string tension with light lacquer overspray.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the 490R and 498T humbucker pair has "Gibson USA" stamps on the baseplates. The wiring harness has been upgraded with tightly spec'd 500k CTS pots. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, and all of the original plastic parts are present including the gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard, and switch surround. The original nitro lacquer finish is a saturated gloss Heritage Cherry Sunburst, which exhibits one longer scratch on top on the bass-side lower bout, a few additional more minor marks in that area, and some requisite pick scuffing across the guard. Wear is otherwise limited to a few light finish scratches and nicks across the back, but shy of buckle rash. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss with just a couple tiny nicks and a hit of rack rash on the treble side shoulder behind the 1st fret.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included, along with the Gibson USA strap, Gibson/Yamano manual, and additional original hangtags and paperwork in Japanese.
