Up for sale, a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Weighing 9lbs 15oz, this Les Paul has a lively and round-sounding natural acoustic quality that sustains well and offers both articulation and warmth, qualities consistent with the carved maple cap and solid mahogany body construction. The stock humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the 490R neck pickup featuring Alnico II magnets and a more vintage-spec, PAF-style sonic range, while the Alnico V magnet 498T bridge pickup is overwound for extra power and authority. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender '60s-style C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register and more heft and roundness further up the fretboard, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay and stock frets which retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The frets are shy of medium jumbo in width yet have plenty of meat, showing just a hint of wear beneath the G string on frets 2-5. The guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width, and the scale length measures 24 3/4". The headstock face retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and Grover Rotomatic tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with "Gibson USA"-embossed baseplates on the 490R and 498T humbucker pair, and the original quartet of Gibson-embossed Alpha 500k pots. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming on the Nashville bridge and stopbar, and original plastic parts include the gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, and yellowed switch surround.
The Honey Burst gloss nitro lacquer finish highlights a light speckling of figuring in the maple on the lower bout on top, and there is a subtle sticker tan line on the bass-side lower bout on top, with additional sticker tan lines across the back. Cosmetic wear includes scattered small dings on the body, more pronounced on the back and body perimeter, with additional buckle wear at the treble-side waist. There is additional wear and some chips through the clear coat along the lower bout binding on top, and some scratches on the bass-side lower bout rim in the mahogany. The gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth with just a few minor marks central to the carve.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
