Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Telecaster '52 vintage reissue model TL52-ASH in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare, non-catalog "Crafted in Japan" example, this Tele is an upper-tiered model with numerous vintage-correct features including black bobbin USA pickups and a premium wiring harness, brass bridge saddles, flathead screws used throughout, and a highly figured flame maple neck.
The pickup compliment includes the original Fender USA black bobbin single coils with push-back cloth-covered leads (not to be confused with the Texas Specials commonly used in Fender Japan's "Crafted" era). Traditional Tele tonewood ingredients include a solid ash body and one-piece maple neck, offering a resonant, snappy, and dynamically responsive platform for the single coil pair. With chewy twang and plenty of edge and percussive cut, these pickups excel and both crystalline sparkle and smooth warmth. The guitar weighs 8lbs 5oz, dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 11-49 strings, low action, and solid intonation.
The maple neck has a V profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, and prominent flame figuring extends the entire length of the profile and across the headstock. The profile measures .875” deep at the 1st fret and .999” at the 12th. The slender vintage-style frets retain their full factory height, showing only light wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-8. The guitar plays well in ever register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The neck has Fender's traditional 25 1/2" scale length, with a vintage-spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius, while nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. The headstock sports a set of original Kluson-style Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. Above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate, the "Crafted in Japan" script text and P-prefix serial number are intact, while the neck pocket is stamped TL-52ASH.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way blade pickup selector, original full-size USA-made CTS potentiometers, and a premium tone cap. The ash body has a rich transparent Butterscotch finish, showcasing the prominent grain of the wood, accented by a one-ply black pickguard. The vintage-style bridge has a trio of brass saddles, and the bridge base is stamped with an A-prefix serial. The chrome hardware is notably clean on the knurled, domed knobs and control plate, with light patina on the bridge base and saddles. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to a few minor nicks and light finish scratches, mostly relegated to the back and body parameter.
A more recent padded Fender-branded gigbag is included.
