Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62G-80TX in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Loosely riffing on SRV's #1 Stratocaster, this “Crafted in Japan” model was produced for the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside its country of origin. An upper-tiered Fender Japan instrument, this Strat features gold hardware and a set of Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups.

Featuring a traditional tonewood complement of an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, this Strat has a smooth, balanced acoustic response. At the heart of this model is the trio of factory installed USA-made Fender Custom Shop Texas Special black bobbin single coils, delivering classic sparkle and cut with a touch of extra output and midrange heft. The bridge pickup has a snappy, slightly aggressive snap, the neck pickup is smooth and broad, and positions 2 and 4 on the five-way switch offer quintessential Strat quack. This guitar weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in all registers and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .945” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4” vintage-spec radius with flawless slender fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The original bone nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. On the headstock, the gleaming gold Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with just the faintest hint of patina on their buttons. The “Crafted in Japan” script text and P-prefix serial are present above the gold four-bolt neck plate.

On the body, all the electronics function as intended, with the trio of USA-made Custom Shop Texas Special pickups, untouched solder joints, and a traditional Strat control array including a  five-way pickup selector and Volume/Tone/Tone controls. The pickups feature all the hallmarks of Fender's golden age, with staggered alnico magnets, black fiber bobbins, and cloth-covered leads. The gold hardware has bright, clean plating, including the vibrato with “Fender”-embossed saddles and original arm. Plastics comprise the bright white pickup covers, lightly aged knobs, and the three-ply black pickguard which displays some requisite pick scuffing on the treble side.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish includes a pair of dings adjacent to the neck plate on the back, a cluster of minor marks along the lower bout body edge, and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

A gigbag is included.
