Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue Texas Special model ST62-70TX in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in custom color Sonic Blue. This “Crafted in Japan” Strat is an upscale iteration rarely seen outside of its country of origin, featuring USA-made Custom Shop black bobbin Texas Special pickups.

Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat circa 1962, this model features a traditional tonewood complement including an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The factory-installed Fender USA Texas Special pickups match vintage spec with black fiber bobbins and cloth-covered leads, offering great midrange cut, snappy bass, and a slightly aggressive overwound bite. Via the five-way pickup selector switch, the guitar delivers plenty of sparkle and spank in the bridge position, classic thinned-out quack at the “in-between” positions, and a throaty richness at the neck that's harmonically rich and great for lead work. This Strat weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and retains the stock slender fretwire. The frets are at their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing light, uniform wear beneath the strings on frets 1-2 and wear that grows progressively fainter beneath the plain strings until the octave. This Strat plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 42mm (1.650”) in width. The headstock sports a small Pre-CBS shape and “spaghetti” logo, and the Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” script text and P-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck pocket retains the factory stamps denoting the model and color.

On the body, the electronics all work as they should, with three staggered pole alnico V magnet Fender USA-made Texas Special black bobbin single coils wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints. The pickups are governed by a five-way pickup selector switch and standard Volume/Tone/Tone controls. The vintage-style vibrato is faithful to Fender's early 1960's design with a full-size trem block, actuating easily for quick surfy warbles and deeper dives. The chrome hardware is bright and clean, and the “Fender”-embossed saddles display just a hint of patina. Plastics include the original trio of knobs and three-ply parchment pickguard, all notably clean.

The custom color Sonic Blue finish has a lightly yellowed clear coat for a subtle green tint, and there is a faint sticker tan line on the back below the tremolo cavity. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to a targeted area of light buckle rash on the back central to the waist and just a scant few microscopic dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
