Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Stratocaster '62 vintage reissue model ST62-70TX in perfect working order with a custom color Fiesta Red gloss finish. An early "Crafted in Japan" instrument, the ST62-70TX model is an upscale iteration rarely seen outside its country of origin, boasting factory-installed USA-made black bobbin Texas Special pickups. This model was designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat, with a traditional tonewood complement including an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The factory-installed Fender USA Texas Special pickups match vintage spec with black fiber bobbins and cloth-covered leads, offering great midrange chirp, tight bass, and a slightly aggressive overwound snap. Via the five-way pickup selector switch, the guitar delivers plenty of sparkle and spank in the bridge position, while the "in-between" positions have a snappy, thinned-out quack. The neck pickup is bold and round with a throaty zing that's harmonically rich and great for lead work. Acoustically resonant and well balanced on a strap, this Strat weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and solid intonation. The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining a hair more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius and stock slender fretwire that retains its full factory height. These frets show moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2, with fainter wear extending to fret 5. The guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 25 1/2“, and the stock nut measures 42mm in width (1.653"). The headstock features a Pre-CBS small Strat shape with original Kluson-style Gotoh tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" script text and P-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate. On the body, the electronics all work as they should, with three staggered pole alnico V magnet Fender USA-made Texas Special black bobbin single coils with cloth-covered leads wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints. The vintage-style vibrato is faithful to Fender's early 1960's design, sporting Fender-branded saddles anchored to the body with six crosshead, dome-top screws. The full-size tremolo block adds to the richness of this Strat's tone, and the unit actuates easily for quick surfy warbles and deeper dives. The chrome hardware is bright and clean with just a touch of surface patina, and the plastics include cream pickup covers and knobs and a three-ply mint green pickguard with light pick scuffing on the treble side of the guard. The Fiesta Red gloss finish is particularly bold and vibrant, and cosmetic wear includes two touched-up dings, one on the back of the treble-side body horn, and the other adjacent to the rear strap button, along with a few additional minor marks and faint finish scratches relegated to the back and body perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss finish.
