Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Stratocaster ‘54 vintage reissue model ST54-80AM in showroom-clean condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. A rare "Crafted in Japan" reissue of the Stratocaster's first year of production, this guitar was offered exclusively to the Japanese domestic market, long ago discontinued and rarely seen outside its country of origin. A rare, high-tiered reissue, this guitar features as ash body, V neck profile carve, and a trio of factory-installed Fender Custom Shop black bobbin Custom '54 single coils.

The traditional tonewood pairing of an ash body and maple neck delivers great sonic authority, treble articulation, and complex midrange heft, qualities which translate faithfully through the Custom Shop pickups. Originally sold as the American '50s pickups and later rebranded as Custom '54s, these black bobbin pickups feature staggered, lightly beveled alnico magnets, delivering a broad array of traditional Strat tones. Each pickup has a distinctive, vital sound, with great percussive clarity and woody snap. This Strat weighs 8lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a medium depth V-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius and retains the flawless stock slender fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 42.5mm in width (just shy of 1 11/16"), and the headstock has era-correct features including a spaghetti logo and Kluson-style tuning machines. The “Crafted in Japan” script text and O-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and Custom Shop foil stickers on the black bobbin single coils. The vibrato works smoothly with a full-size block that adds to the resonance and sustain of the instrument. Plastics include the bright white knobs, pickup covers and one-ply pickguard, which exhibits some light scuffing on the treble side of the strum path. The bridge and jack cup have notably clean chrome plating.

The two-tone Sunburst gloss finish highlights the broad grain of the ash body. This is an exceedingly well-kept example, with barely a scratch on the body. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is similarly immaculate.

The original Fender Japan black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the serialized hangtag.
