Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Mustang ‘69 vintage reissue model MG69-65 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced in Japan exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this “Crafted in Japan” Mustang is uncommon outside of its country of origin and sports a custom color pale Surf Green finish. There's plenty to love about this Mustang, from the lightweight and resonant body to the pair of stock single coil pickups that deliver plenty of snap and twang. The crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is soloed and more aggressive twang at the bridge. Weighing 7lbs 4oz, this Mustang has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, with a gentle increase in overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius and stock slender fretwire, with light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-9. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 9/16” in width. On the headstock, the original set of Kluson-style tuners hold accurate pitch and turn smoothly, and the “Crafted in Japan” script text and O-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work exactly as they should, with on/off/on switches for each single coil and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The vibrato actuates effortlessly, offering a very smooth response and working in concert with the bridge's barrel saddles. The chrome hardware is quite clean, with just a faint dusting of patina. The custom color Surf Green finish is accented by the red "tomato soup" tortoise pickguard, and there is very faint yellowing in the clear coat. Cosmetic wear includes a handful of minor nicks and dings on the body as a whole, along with some additional finish scuffs largely relegated to the back, and limited finish checking on the back and extending from the control plate. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is nigh-flawless, save for a few shallow marks on the bass-side shoulder behind frets 5-7 that don't distract the palm while fretting. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
