Up for sale, a 1999 Fender Jazz Bass model JB62G in near mint condition and in perfect working order. An extremely rare model with a satin finish and bookmatched quilted maple top, this Fender Japan exclusive Jazz Bass model has been thoroughly upgraded from stock with USA-made CTS pots, Sprague Orange Drop tone caps, a carved bone nut, and a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity II gray bobbin pickups. With dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, the bass offers a bit more tonal flexibility than a standard Jazz Bass control layout, and the Antiquity II pickups achieve a range of '60s Jazz Bass tonalities. The bass register is warm and focused, with excellent low midrange presence and grind, upper midrange burp, and dynamic treble growl. Rolling back the Tone knobs to taste yields broader thump that retains excellent definition. The bass weighs 9lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 45-105 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. On the extremely dark, tight-grained rosewood slab fretboard, the slender frets are flawless, and the bass plays easily up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures 1 1/2" in width, ensuring optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock features original gold tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well, along with a '62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal. The "Crafted in Japan" text and P-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics function flawlessly, and the harness has been fully upgraded with USA-made CTS pots and premium Sprague Orange Drop tone caps. The Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pickups feature Alnico 5 magnets, push-back cloth wire, and wax potting. Hardware includes an ungraded quartet of gold knurled knobs and the original Gotoh heavy-duty bridge which shows light surface patina on the forward edge. The satin Sunburst finish highlights the deep and dimensional bookmatched quilted maple figuring which extends liberally across the top, while the back is finished in a deep black. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a couple tiny pinhead-sized marks on the back, while the satin finish on the neck profile is flawless. This Jazz Bass is an extremely rare Japan-only non-catalog model, thoroughly upgraded and professionally setup to play its best.A gigbag is included.
