Up for sale, a 1998 Yamaha Takanaka Signature model SG-2000MT in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This unique iteration of Yamaha’s perennially popular SG platform (commonly known as the “Les Paul Killer” for numerous, very good reasons) is the signature model of Japanese guitar legend and city pop pioneer Masayoshi Takanaka, boasting a custom color Lagoon Blue finish. This particular SG-2000MT has been augmented with a Wilkinson/Gotoh VS-100N tremolo and a set of Sperzel locking tuners.
Featuring neck-through construction, a carved maple top, mahogany body wings, and a brass sustain block beneath the bridge, this Yamaha takes Gibson's tried and true tonewood combination and utilizes it to great effect. Yamaha also used a three-piece neck for this model with two pieces of mahogany paired with a central maple section, patented as the T-Cross System. This not only improves the stability of the neck, but also adds to the tonal complexity, with features of both woods evident in the sound. Plugged in, the pair of SGH-40B humbuckers are punchy and bold, with plenty of top-end articulation and warm, focused lows. This SG-2000MT weighs 10lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The custom color Lagoon Blue gloss finish is extremely well-kept, and the tremolo modification was expertly done and could easily be mistaken for Yamaha factory work. Cosmetic wear is limited to mild pick scuffing on top, a few finish chips along the lower bout perimeter, and a few light finish scratches central to the back. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
