Up for sale, a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Limited Edition in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The carved maple cap on this upper tiered "Plus" iteration of the Standard is an absolute knock-out, with dimensional straight tiger flame extending liberally across the top, and broad bookmatched grain running perpendicular to the flame.
The factory gold hardware and 57 Classic PAF pickup pair (as opposed to the usual 490R/498T pickups) is responsible for the "Limited Edition" nature of this model, and this guitar was ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano. Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods hand-picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.
Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this Les Paul is notably lightweight, yet the traditional tonewood complement of a carved two-piece maple top and mahogany body ensure a particularly punchy and round-sound with great sustain. The '57 Classic PAF humbuckers give this Les Paul a smooth bass register, tailored midrange, and sweet, articulate trebles, consistent with Gibson's vintage "Patent Applied For" pickups. The pickups have ample clarity and power, with excellent bridge pickup growl and a sweet, round neck position humbucker that has great bloom and complex harmonic content. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, slinky action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender '60s-style C-shaped profile carve with a fast, effortless feel and more roundness and shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the stock frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The frets have good meat, showing virtually no wear and  playing cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover, and the original bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with greened keystone buttons are intact too.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the '57 Classic PAF humbucker pair is wired to the original harness with untouched solder joints. Both pickups retain clean PAF stickers on their baseplates too. The gold hardware has just been thoroughly detailed and has plenty of shine, exhibiting uniform surface patina, particularly concentrated on the bass-side edge of the Nashville bridge and bridge pickup cover. All original plastics are intact, and this guitar was never fitted with a pickguard, consistent with the practice of highlighting figured tops on Les Pauls in this era.
The gloss nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst finish highlights dimensional bookmatched tiger flame across the top. Cosmetic wear includes some dings concentrated on the bass-side lower bout on top, a small area of light buckle rash at the bass-side waist, and a few additional light finish scratches and nicks across the back. The neck profile gloss is smooth and clean, with just one small ding on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 5.
The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included, along with the Gibson/Yamano manual.
