Up for sale, a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order with a Cardinal Red gloss nitro lacquer finish. Offering the same tonal platform as a '50s single cutaway Special and boasting a couple key player-friendly modern tweaks, this Gibson features an Tune-o-Matic bridge for more accurate intonation, and a pair of original stacked bobbin P-100 pickups. These pickups offer plenty of classic P-90 growl, presence, and midrange power, while also featuring a second coil to eliminate unwanted single coil hum. The guitar weighs 8lbs 3oz with a slab mahogany body and a clear acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Special has been dialed in with low action and fresh 11-48 strings.
The one-piece mahogany neck has Gibson's quintessential slender C "60s" profile carve at the nut, yet with full, rounded shoulders in every register, providing both a fast and substantial feel, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo frets have plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing only faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the scale length is 24 3/4". The face of the headstock retains the original Gibson gold silkscreen text, and the guitar is fitted with the original set of Gibson Deluxe bolt-bushing tuners with greened tulip buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the pair of original black bobbin P-100 pickups wired to an untouched wiring harness with stock Gibson-embossed Alpha pots. The guitar features a traditional Les Paul control array with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and original perfect black bell knobs. The Nashville bridge and stopbar tailpiece have positively gleaming chrome plating, and the original three-ply black pickguard and pickup selector Rhythm/Treble ring are also intact. Cosmetic wear is limited to light finish scratches and scuffs in the clear coat of the gloss on the back, faint yet of note, along with a small spot of very light buckle rash between the switch cover plate and subtle belly carve. There is light pick wear on the treble side of the guard and a few minor nicks and scuffs in the lacquer on top. The neck profile is flawless.
The original Gibson USA brown tolex hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
