Up for sale, a 1998 Gibson 1964 J-160E dreadnought acoustic/electric in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and all hangtags/paperwork. This iteration of the J-160E platform was crafted at the Gibson acoustic factory in Bozeman, Montana, featuring an X-braced spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a P-90-style pickup mounted between the fretboard and soundhole. This J-160E was ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano, and Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.

Notable for being X-braced (as opposed to the ladder bracing seen on many J-160Es), this Gibson dreadnought covers a wide sonic range; both acoustic and electric. Strung with 12-52 nickel strings with a wound G, this Gibson offers a bold sound, with a top that’s had time to open up and project. The lows are warm and rich, with crisp, presence-laden highs, offering a tone that is perhaps best described as “Beatle-esque.” When plugged in, the signal is midrange-forward and more electric guitar-sounding than a faithful acoustic approximation, delivering dynamic cleans and pairing very well with a vintage tube amp. This J-160E weighs 5lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
