Up for sale, a 1998 Fender Stratocaster model ST62-94 in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and hardshell case. An upscale non-catalog model exclusively offered by Fender Japan and virtually unseen outside its country of origin, this Strat essentially replicates the feature set of the Jeff Beck model. Premium features include USA noiseless pickups, USA-made CTS pots, a two-point vibrato, 22 fret slab rosewood fretboard with a modern 9 1/2" radius, contoured neck heel, Wilkinson roller nut, and Sperzel locking tuning machines.
The noiseless pickups succeed at providing a host of familiar Strat tonalities with an excellent noise floor. Snappy and chiming, the pickups offer a distinct sound in every pickup position, from bridge pickup cut and sparkle to more throaty, round neck pickup tonalities. The guitar weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The slender frets are flawless on the thick slab rosewood fingerboard which has a 22 fret range paired with a modern 9 1/2" fretboard radius and contoured neck heel, all features geared for effortless lead work in the higher registers. The Wilkinson roller nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the small Pre-CBS-style headstock features matte-finished USA Sperzel locking tuning machines which provide optimal stability with heavy vibrato use. The script "Crafted in Japan" text and O-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with a traditional Strat control array and USA-made CTS pots which date to the 53rd week of '98 governing the trio of USA Fender Noiseless pickups. The two-point vibrato actuates easily for deep dives and broad, expressive warbles, and the chrome plating is particularly clean on the bridge, jack cup, and neck plate. Plastics include a mint green pickguard and cream knobs, The Olympic White gloss finish is clean as can be, with wear limited to a few light pick scuffs across the guard and one tiny nick on the back lower bout body edge. The satin-finished neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender Japan black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the original manual and hangtags.
