Up for sale, a 1998 Fender Stratocaster '71 vintage reissue model ST71-85TX in excellent condition and in perfect working order, featuring USA-made Fender Texas Special pickups and upgraded with all USA-made components in the wiring harness.

Crafted in Japan, this guitar is a first year example of the ST71-85TX model, made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and rarely seen outside its country of origin. This vintage-spec Strat features a large ‘70s-style headstock with bullet truss rod nut, a rosewood fretboard, solid ash body, and trio of stock USA-made Fender Texas Special single coil pickups. The guitar offers a great array of classic Fender tonalities via the five-way pickup selector switch, from throaty, rich lead tones in the neck position and thinned-out squawk in positions 2 and 4, to a bell-like, shimmery bridge pickup. And with a bit more output and midrange heft than most Strat pickups, the Texas Specials are perfect for pushing your tube amp to the edge of breakup. Well-balanced on a strap and very resonant at 7lbs 14oz, the guitar has a clear acoustic voice with the inherent complex midrange character and clear note attack of ash as a tonewood. This Stratocaster has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with 9-42 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with nicely rounded shoulders in every register and more overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius, with perfect stock medium jumbo fretwire that has plenty of meat and crown. The guitar plays easily in every register, and the neck is straight with an optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock features a block Stratocaster logo, bullet truss rod, single string tree, and set of original chrome Fender F tuners. The "Crafted in Japan" script text and O-prefix serial number is present above the three-bolt "F" neck plate with micro-tilt adjustment.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the original USA-made Fender Texas Special single coils have staggered alnico magnets, black fiber bobbins, and cloth-covered leads. The wiring harness has been fully upgraded with a Switchcraft five-way switch, USA-made CTS pots, and a premium Sprague Orange Drop tone cap. The guitar has a full-size tremolo block too for optimal sustain and clarity, and the vibrato has a smooth and deliberate response for deep dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The chrome hardware is nice and clean, and the plastics are bright white. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Natural finish includes an area of light buckle rash central to the upper bout on the back and across the plastic tremolo cavity cover. There are some dings clustered on the lower bout body edge and on the lower bout on top, and pick scuffing across the guard and extending to the lower bout. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

A well-padded gigbag is included.
