Up for sale, a 1998 Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. From the first year of production, this (since-discontinued) "Made in Japan" Marcus Miller Jazz Bass features an ash body with a gloss Natural finish, active EQ, and maple fretboard with binding and pearl block inlay. The Marcus Miller model is designed for optimal richness, detail, and articulation, and the stock pickups have plenty of growl and burp, with the top end response accentuated by the maple fretboard. The ash body and Leo Quan Badass II bridge also ensure ample sustain, clear note attack and a complex midrange character. The bass weighs 9lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a medium U-shaped profile carve with more overall shoulder and heft further up the fretboard, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The maple fretboard features a 7 1/4“ radius with pearloid block inlay, and the stock slender fretwire is flawless. The original nut has the traditional 1 1/2" Jazz Bass width, and the bass plays easily up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly and hold pitch well, with large baseplates and long stems. The "Made in Japan" text and Miller’s signature are present on the headstock face, along with an A-prefix serial number seen on early examples of this model.

All of the electronics work as intended, with a switchable active two-band EQ along with independent Volume knobs for each pickup. The original Leo Quan Badass II bridge increases the sustain and power that this bass can deliver, and the "ashtray" pickup cover and dome-top knurled knobs round out the hardware. Plastics comprise the EQ knobs and the large three-piece pickguard.

The gloss Natural finish highlights the broad grain in the ash body, particularly on the back, and cosmetic wear is limited to a small area of faint buckle worming on the back central to the waist and a handful of minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back and lower bout body edge. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with a scant few shallow marks on the bass-side shoulder that have no impact on playability.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
