Up for sale, a 1998 Fender Jazzmaster '62 reissue model JM66-80 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This "Crafted in Japan" Jazzmaster is a discontinued model, designed for sale within Japan and uncommon outside its country of origin.
Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, and the guitar offers a broad range of vintage-flavored tonalities. At 7lbs 12oz, the instrument has an authoritative, clear sound when strummed acoustically, qualities that are translated faithfully through the original single coil pair. There's plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of defined and powerful tones from the two alnico magnet pickups. Warmer, wooly sounds can be accessed via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The thick rosewood fretboard has lightly rolled edges for added comfort, with a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius. The original slender vintage-style frets exhibit wear on frets 1-3, with decent grooves beneath the plain strings in particular, and lighter wear extending beneath the plain strings to fret 9. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the 25 1/2" scale length, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"). The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" script text and O-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the chrome hardware is bright and clean. The vibrato unit engages smoothly for quick warbles and surfy dives, working in concert with the stock bridge. The plastic parts include a dark reddish brown tortoise pickguard and uniformly yellowed pickup covers and knobs. Cosmetic wear includes some small finish chips along the lower bout body perimeter, and some additional minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss on the profile length is clean and smooth.
