Up for sale, a 1998 Fender American Vintage '62 reissue stack knob Jazz Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original G&G hardshell case. Crafted at Fender's Corona, CA factory, this Jazz Bass is a faithful reissue of the most collectable and desirable Jazz Basses of the early 1960s, complete with the "stack knob" control configuration, a custom color Lake Placid Blue nitro lacquer finish over an alder body, and a maple neck capped with a slab rosewood fretboard.
Upgraded from stock, the bass features a pair of Geddy Lee signature gray bobbin Jazz Bass pickups, hand-wound by Tom Brantley and officially sanctioned by Geddy Lee. Tom Brantly rewound the pickup in Geddy's "#1", and these dynamic and tonally rich Geddy Lee pickups pair very well with this instrument. Each pickup has its own dedicated Volume and Tone control, and the bridge pickup offers great clarity and upper midrange power, achieving a certain smoothness and breadth with Tone knob rolled back. The neck pickup has a thicker pillowy thump, sitting well in a mix and offering more top end and detail than a P Bass pickup. Weighing 9lbs 15oz, the bass has plenty of natural sustain, strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings and professionally dialed in with low action and spot-on intonation here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender fretwire which shows sparingly little wear, playing cleanly up the 34" scale. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width. On the headstock, the original reverse-geared long stem clover-button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well, and the original Jazz Bass waterslide decal is intact.
The original wiring harness features stacked Vol/Tone pots that date to the 37th week of '98, governing the upgraded pair of hand-wound Geddy Lee pickups. All of the original hardware is present including the "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers, and the chrome plating is positively gleaming. Stock plastics are accounted for as well including the three-ply parchment pickguard and finger rest. The Lake Placid Blue gloss nitro lacquer finish is extremely well-kept, and very light playwear includes some small finish chips on the body perimeter, a few scuffs and minor marks on the body as a whole, and a bit of very faint buckle rash just south of the belly carve on the back. The nitro gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.
The original Fender G&G Deluxe tweed hardshell case is included.
