Up for sale, a 1997 Ibanez S Series model S540FM in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Expertly crafted at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, this sleek model is the successor to the 540S, featuring a flame maple top and back over a mahogany body, and a one-piece maple neck with a Wizard profile carve. The HSH pickup complement includes the original Quantum pickups, with QM1 and QM2 humbuckers and a QMS1 middle position single coil. This S540FM is featherweight at 6lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, accurate intonation, and fast action.
The one-piece maple neck has a slender Wizard profile carve, fast and effortless with round shoulders, measuring .675” deep at the 1st fret and .815” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features abalone oval inlay, a “Custom Made” inlay at the 21st fret, and stock jumbo fretwire. The frets have their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing virtually no wear and playing cleanly in every register. The neck is straight, with an ideally adjusted truss rod and and 17” fretboard radius. The scale length is a full 25 1/2“, and the gold Top-Lok III locking nut measures 43mm (just a hair over 1 11/16") in width. The headstock features a silver Ibanez logo with gold Gotoh “Made in Japan” tuners. On the back of the headstock, the original F97-prefix serial number noted Fujigen factory production in 1997.
On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with a five-way blade selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls for the HSH pickup array. All of the stock hardware is intact including the gold knurled domed knobs and gold double locking Lo-Pro Edge tremolo. The original trem arm is present, and the gold hardware shows only a dusting of surface patina. The gloss Transparent Black Sunburst finish highlights the bookmatched tiger flame maple on the top and back, with figuring extending to the edges of the burst. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a couple tiny nicks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck sports a nigh flawless satin finish on the profile.
The original Ibanez-branded gigbag is included.
