Up for sale, a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Standard, professionally setup and in perfect working order with a dark nitro lacquer Wine Red finish. This early modern Standard weighs 10lbs 2oz, delivering a lively, powerful acoustic voice that translates well through the humbuckers with the traditional tonewood complement of a carved, bookmatched two-piece maple top, mahogany body, and one-piece mahogany neck. The 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the Alnico II magnet neck pickup offering more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup cuts through with classic Gibson sizzle and roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard has 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a slender ‘60s-style C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with notable roundness and shoulder as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. On the rosewood fretboard, the original frets are intact, retaining their full factory height and plenty of meat, showing faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width. The original "Standard" truss rod cover is intact, and the headstock is fitted with a set of upgraded Kluson-style tuners with lightly greened keystone buttons and push-in bushings. The headstock face has faint halos around the current tuners from larger bushings, and there is light cloudiness in the clear coat on the top 20% of the headstock.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the stock pickups and clean "Gibson USA" stamps on the baseplates. The wiring harness features more recent 500k CTS pots and premium Sprague Orange Drop tone caps. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, and all of the original plastic parts are present including the gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard, and switch surround.
The original nitro lacquer Wine Red gloss finish is a particular dark shade framed by lightly ambered binding, and there is pick scuffing across the strum path, extending towards the knobs, with some faint additional marks on top. Cosmetic wear otherwise includes light buckle rash central to the back, and some finish chips and dings on the back body edge. The neck profile shows palm wear through the gloss and areas of cloudiness in the clear coat of the lacquer on the neck profile, along with some small, shallow marks on the profile length.
A padded Gibson gigbag is included.
