Up for sale, a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork. Loaded with an aftermarket pair of Dimarzio's PAF Master humbuckers, this Les Paul was ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano. Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience.

Weighing 9lbs 5oz, this Les Paul has a lively and round-sounding natural acoustic quality that sustains well and offers both articulation and warmth, qualities consistent with the carved maple cap and solid mahogany body tonewood construction. The Dimarzio PAF Master humbuckers are bright and very lively. The bridge position is sensitive to picking dynamics, and when played hard, it has a snarly, thick sound. The neck pickup is full-sounding and has a real richness and throaty tone, with smooth, creamy highs. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, slinky action and solid intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a round medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in every register and ideal substance, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl trapezoid inlay and medium fretwire that has its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock face retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and Gibson Deluxe bolt-bushing tuners with aged keystone buttons. These tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the Dimarzio PAF Master humbuckers soldered to the original harness with Alpha pots. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, and original plastics include gold speed knobs and cream pickup rings, with notable yellowing of the pickup selector ring.

The Cherry Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish is framed by ambered binding, and cosmetic wear includes some stabilized finish chipping along the bass-side lower bout body edge where the forearm crosses the top. There are just a few small nicks on top, some scuffing on the back lower bout body edge, and some minor finish scratches and dings on the back as well, yet shy of “buckle rash." The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with the factory paperwork (in Japanese) and Gibson manual with Yamano text on the cover.
