Up for sale, a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Standard Bass in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, upgraded with Bartolini electronics and complete with the original hardshell case. The second modern iteration of the Les Paul Bass platform, and arguably the most robust and powerful-sounding given its pickup and hardwood complement, this bass leverages traditional Les Paul tonewoods to great effect, with a mahogany body and carved maple cap.

At 11lbs 10oz, there's no shortage of punch and sustain, and the instrument has a natural acoustic richness and bite, accentuating the top end articulation of maple and the ebony fingerboard, with the underlying characteristic warmth and smooth growl of mahogany. The original pair of Gibson's TB Plus humbuckers feature ceramic magnets, and these pickups are identical to what you'd find in a Thunderbird. The aftermarket active Bartolini TBT-B preamp enables a broader array of tonal sculpting possibilities beyond what's possible with a passive preamp. This Les Paul Bass benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .880” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The ebony fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the medium jumbo fretwire is pristine. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.650“ in width. On the headstock, the Grover tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

The electronics function as intended; the active Bartolini TCT-B preamp is powered by an internal 9V battery, with center detent Bass, MIddle, and Treble EQ knobs, as well as a Master Volume control. The hardware is extremely robust, far more substantial than the three-point bridges which preceded this model, and also significantly more overbuilt than the ABR-1/stopbar design on Gibson's current bass iterations of the Les Paul Bass platform. The bridge and tailpiece are both inset into the body, with individually height adjustable saddles and chrome plating. Plastics comprise the cream pickup rings and the quartet of amber bonnet knobs.

The Vintage Sunburst finish exhibits an area of buckle rash central to the upper bout on the back, with just a handful of faint scratches and a couple microscopic nicks on the body as a whole.

The original Gibson-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
