Up for sale, a 1997 Gibson Custom Shop Ace Frehley Signature Les Paul Custom in collector grade, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Based on one of Frehley’s favorite ‘70s Customs, just 300 guitars were produced for the ‘97 Custom Shop run of this iconic instrument, featuring no-corners-cut construction, premium components, and unique embellishments designed to pay tribute to the KISS legend including lightning bolt fretboard inlays, an engraved “sterling silver” truss rod cover, control cavity cover and rear switch cavity cover, and a portrait of the Spaceman himself inlaid on the headstock.
This particular Frehley Signature was ordered by Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano; Gibson’s USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered to be among their absolute best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson’s discerning Japanese audience.
Weighing only 9lbs 3oz, traditional tonewoods include a mahogany body topped with a highly figured AAA flame maple top, mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard. The trio of DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion humbuckers are synonymous with Frehley’s tone: designed to push a tube amp into creamy overdrive with boosted mids, wide lows, and fat highs, these classic hot humbuckers offer crunchy, chunky chords and melodic lines with a searing, white-hot singing quality that sits great in a mix. This Custom Shop Ace Frehley Signature Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
