Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Telecaster Custom '62 vintage reissue model in excellent condition and in perfect working order with factory-installed Fender USA-made Texas Special pickups. This very early "Crafted in Japan" Telecaster is a rare model, meant only for the Japanese domestic market and features a gloss Black finish and aged white binding on the top and back of the instrument for a classic Fender look. Officially modeled TL62B-80TX, this guitar comes stock from the factory with Fender USA-made Texas Special black bobbin pickups. If you're looking for a pickup that has a bit more kick than your traditional Tele pickup while still retaining the twang, snap, and snarl associated with that hallowed single coil, the Texas Special is a perfect choice. Even with the slightly increased output from the pickups, the guitar still has Fender's signature clarity and chime, with biting treble response in the bridge position and smooth, sweet tones at the neck. The guitar weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and low action. The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with generous shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, filling out with a hair more roundness and heft in the higher registers of the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 12th. The notably thick slab rosewood fretboard features a vintage-spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius and retains the original slender fretwire which has its full factory height, showing grooves beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-2, with wear growing fainter beneath the plain strings until fret 5 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays easily up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with an optimally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The nut measures 1.660" in width (just shy of 1 11/16"). On the headstock, the Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" script text is present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the serial number is stamped into the bridge base with an A-prefix.All of the stock electronics work as they should, with the USA-made Fender Texas Special pickups governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with flat top knurled knobs. The hardware shows uniform patina on the bridge base and spiral saddles, with brighter chrome plating on the control plate and knobs. The body binding is lightly ambered, framing the gloss Black finish which is also accented by an upgraded three-ply wide bevel black pickguard. The guard shows pick scuffing on the treble side, extending between the bridge and control plate. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to a few minor nicks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.A gigbag is included.
