Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Stringmaster SM-2 dual 8 double neck console steel in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of Fender Japan's rarest items produced during the "Crafted in Japan" era of production, this exceedingly uncommon double neck console steel is a very faithful reproduction of the 1950s Fender original. The machining on the tuning machine tray and control plate is an uncanny replica of the '50s original, complete with a balance pot hidden beneath the "ashtray" bridge cover. Outfitted with the original telescoping legs and black tolex Fender-branded hardshell case, this Stringmaster has a range of snappy tones to match its good looks. The pair of eight pole single coil pickups per neck offer plenty of snap and chime, with a smooth, bold response across all strings. Freshly restrung with roundwound strings, the Stringmaster SM-2 can be spanky and cutting or warm and smooth with the twist of a Tone knob. The steel features a 24" scale with 2 3/16” string spacing at nut and 2 5/8” spacing at bridge. Solder joints are untouched, all electronics function as intended, and the chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming. There's barely a mark on the Olympic White gloss finish, and the A-prefix serial number is present on the back. Cosmetic wear is limited to light surface patina on the legs and leg flanges. The original black tolex case has a green plush interior, with a separate compartment to store the legs. The latches are functional, the handle is intact, and the case exterior has a raised Fender badge.
