Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Richie Kotzen Telecaster model TLR-135RK in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. A second-year example of the Kotzen model produced at the very end of the original “Made in Japan” era, this rare Telecaster features an ash body with a figured maple top, satin-finished maple neck with abalone dot inlays and a 12” fretboard radius, super jumbo fretwire, USA-made DiMarzio pickups, and a gloss Sea Foam Green Sunburst finish accented by a white pearloid pickguard and gold hardware.
Kotzen is best known for his stints with Poison, Mr. Big, and the Winery Dogs, and his signature Telecaster model is a purpose-built instrument with a bold, articulate acoustic voice that translates well through the pair of DiMarzio pickups, including the Chopper blade single coil-sized humbucker in the bridge position and the Twang King single coil at the neck. There's plenty of rich humbucker authority and percussive single coil cut on tap, and this versatile configuration yields a dynamic array of tones, broadened further by the Series/Parallel two-way rotary Tone knob. This TLR-135RK is lightweight at 7lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Chunky U, measuring .905” 1st fret, .995” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Maple, 22-fret, 12” radius, abalone dot inlays
-Frets: Super jumbo, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 ½”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone
-Tuners: Gotoh SG381, pearloid buttons
-Serialization: “Made in Japan,” N-prefix
-Factory Markings: Model stamps on neck heel/pocket
Body Specs:
-Wood: Quilted maple, ash
-Pickups: DiMarzio Chopper (B), Twang King (N)
-Controls: Volume, Series/Parallel (two-way rotary), Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: 6-Section Brass Special (block saddles), control plate and knurled knobs
-Plastics: Three-ply white pearloid pickguard, ‘50s-style switch tip
The gloss Sea Foam Green Sunburst finish has just enough transparency to highlight the figuring in the quilted maple top. There are four small doweled and touched-up mounting holes around the output jack where an alternate (Gibson-style) jack plate was previously installed, but cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to just a few minor dings. The satin-finished neck profile is clean and smooth.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and original one-year warranty card, dated to expire in the 10th year of the Heisei era (translating to 1998).
